VosCast accepts live audio from software using the Icecast or SHOUTcast source protocol. Some applications combine music playback and an encoder; others need a separate encoder to send the finished programme.

If you are setting up your first station, start with Getting Started - Basic Information. For help comparing workflows, read our internet radio software comparison.

Choose software for your device and programme

Download applications from their developers. The linked guides include official download and documentation links. Software licences, trials and optional modules are separate from VosCast hosting. Check their current terms rather than relying on old price lists.

See the server comparison if you need help choosing a connection mode.

Check any required add-on or directory on its own. Support for an encoder mode does not mean that every feature of an older server is the same.

Send audio from another application

BUTT takes an audio input. Selecting a song in a separate player does not automatically send it to that input. Use a routing setup when you want to broadcast application audio:

  • Windows: Voicemeeter with BUTT combines application audio and a microphone.
  • macOS: BlackHole with BUTT routes application playback into the encoder. Audio Hijack is another option when you want to build a broader audio workflow.

For a remote guest, use the Voicemeeter Banana interview guide to separate the full broadcast from the guest's mix-minus.

BUTT is developed by Daniel Nöthen. The official BUTT website provides downloads and its current manual.

Existing and older setups

Our Winamp with SHOUTcast DSP and AltaCast guides remain available for customers using those setups. Those walkthroughs include older software interfaces; consult the developer's current documentation if your version differs.

Nicecast was retired by its developer. The Nicecast guide is retained for existing installations. For a new Mac setup, consider Audio Hijack, Mixxx or BUTT with suitable audio routing.

You can also use hosted playback

You do not have to run broadcasting software on a computer for uploaded programmes. VosCast hosted Auto DJ plays MP3 files stored in your account while your device is off.

Stop hosted Auto DJ before you connect a live encoder. When the show ends, disconnect the encoder and start Auto DJ again. This change is manual. Use the values in Overview → Live broadcasting and check the listening link before your show.
