Getting Started with RadioCaster

Last updated October 15, 2026

RadioCaster is a Windows audio encoder. It can capture a playback device or an audio input, then send that sound to VosCast. It does not organise and play a music library itself; your player, mixer or other programme source supplies the audio.

Before you start

Install RadioCaster from the official DJSoft website. RadioCaster is paid software with a trial; check the current licence and trial conditions when downloading.

Open Overview → Live broadcasting in your VosCast account. Keep the server type, host, port, Broadcast password, Maximum Bitrate and any Icecast mount available.

Stop hosted VosCast Auto DJ before connecting RadioCaster. Any other live encoder must also disconnect before you take over. Your computer, audio source and internet connection need to stay running throughout the programme.

Choose the sound source

Open RadioCaster → Settings and select Change in the Source category. Choose the source carrying your finished programme:

  • Capture playback: captures audio playing through the selected sound-card device. Make sure your player actually uses that device. Other sounds sent to it, including notifications, can also enter the broadcast.
  • Sound card input: captures a microphone, line input, USB mixer or audio-interface input. Choose the device carrying the complete music-and-speech mix.
  • Network stream: takes audio from a stream URL. Use this only when relaying another stream is the intended programme source; do not feed the VosCast listening URL back into the same station.

Choose an appropriate source sample rate; 44100 Hz is a suitable starting point for this walkthrough. Save the choice, play some programme audio and check the level meter. A working local speaker does not establish that RadioCaster has selected the same device.

Use headphones to monitor. If a microphone is connected to an external mixer, include it in the mixer output sent to RadioCaster rather than expecting playback capture to add it automatically.

Add your VosCast encoder

Press + in the main window to add an encoder. On the Connection tab, open Configuration Wizard. Select your VosCast server type below; do not choose Start built-in server, which would run a separate server on your computer.

Enter your account's host alone in the wizard's server-address field, without http://, https://, a port, or a path. Let the wizard build the combined Server value on the Connection tab.

Icecast

Wizard value What to enter
Server type Icecast
Server address Your account's Server address / Host
Port The account's Standard port
Username, if requested source
Password Your Broadcast password, not your account or server admin password
Mount point The exact account Mount point, including its leading slash; normally /stream

Finish the wizard and leave TLS/SSL off on the Connection tab for this standard-port setup. Do not substitute the TLS port (SSL) into it. Preserve any existing custom mount so current player and listening URLs keep reaching the intended stream.

SHOUTcast

Choose SHOUTcast v1 in the wizard, including for a compatible VosCast SHOUTcast 2 server. Enter your account's host, Server port (SHOUTcast) and Broadcast password.

Use the base port exactly as shown; do not manually add one. An Icecast mount, source username or stream-ID suffix is not required for this profile. Leave TLS/SSL off.

Choose MP3 and station information

On the Connection tab, set Encoder type to MP3, choose the intended Channels, and use 44100 as the Sample rate for this walkthrough. Set Bitrate (kbps) at or below the Maximum Bitrate in your VosCast account. Give the encoder a recognisable display name and save it.

Set your station name and other information on Station Info. Leave Metadata encoding at Auto initially.

Capturing an application's audio does not automatically capture its song titles. Under RadioCaster → Settings, choose a metadata source separately: Use text can send a fixed show title, while Read from file can read a title file updated by your playout software. Check title changes independently from the audio connection.

Connect and listen

  1. Start the intended audio source and check the RadioCaster meter.
  2. In the Encoders list, tick the box next to your VosCast encoder to connect.
  3. Check the report for a successful server connection. View Log provides more detail when a connection fails.
  4. Open the Quick Listen Link from your VosCast account on a second device. Allow for the stream's delay, then check music, speech and any titles.
  5. Untick the VosCast encoder to disconnect at the end of the show. Restart hosted VosCast Auto DJ manually if required.

Troubleshooting

  • Error 2100: recheck the Broadcast password.
  • Error 2: compare the host and port with your account, confirm the internet connection, and check whether a firewall is blocking RadioCaster.
  • Error -1: check for hosted Auto DJ or another encoder already connected to the server.
  • Connected but silent: check the Source choice, selected device, source playback and input gain.
  • Wrong sounds or feedback: keep notification and listening-player audio off the captured device, and check for a loop through your mixer or microphone.
