PlayIt Live is Windows playout software for live and automated programmes. Its built-in Internet Broadcast feature sends programme audio to your VosCast server. These instructions follow the PlayIt Live 2.18 interface.
Before you start
Install the current version from the official PlayIt Live website. This walkthrough uses the built-in broadcaster under Tools, rather than the separate Internet Broadcast plugin used in older versions.
Open Overview → Live broadcasting in your VosCast account and keep your host, port, Broadcast password and maximum bitrate available. Use the server type assigned to your account.
Stop hosted VosCast Auto DJ before connecting directly, and make sure another live encoder is not already using the server. PlayIt Live's local playout is separate from hosted Auto DJ: your computer must stay running and connected for listeners to receive its programme.
Choose the broadcast audio
Open Tools → Internet Broadcast. Check Broadcast Source and use Change Source... to select the audio you want to send. Start some programme audio and confirm that the source meter responds.
Choose the source that includes your intended music and microphone mix. Cue or preview audio should not be sent to listeners. Make source changes before the show; changing the source during broadcasting disconnects and reconnects the streams.
Add a VosCast stream
Select Add Stream... and give the connection a recognisable Name, such as your station name followed by VosCast. Enter the Server Details for your server type.
Icecast
| PlayIt Live field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Server type | Icecast |
| Server address | Your Server address / Host, without a URL scheme, port, or path |
| Server port | The Standard port shown in your VosCast account |
| Username | source |
| Password | Your Broadcast password, not your VosCast account or server admin password |
| Mount | The exact Mount point shown in your account, including the leading slash; normally /stream |
Use this as a standard connection with TLS off; do not substitute the account's TLS port (SSL). Keep a custom mount unchanged so existing listener links and players continue to receive the intended stream. For a separate walkthrough with an explicit TLS option, see BUTT.
SHOUTcast
Choose SHOUTcast V1 for this walkthrough, including when connecting to a compatible VosCast SHOUTcast 2 server. Fill in:
- Server address: the account's host, without a URL scheme, port, or path.
- Server port: your account's Server port (SHOUTcast), exactly as displayed. Do not manually add one.
- Password: the account's Broadcast password.
Leave Username blank. Mount is for Icecast and SID is for SHOUTcast V2; neither is needed for this v1 profile. Do not append a username or stream ID to the password. This walkthrough does not use TLS for SHOUTcast.
Set audio quality and titles
Under Audio Details, use MP3. Set the Quality bitrate at or below your account's Maximum Bitrate, and choose the channels and sample rate for your programme. 44100 Hz is a suitable sample rate for this walkthrough.
Add your Station name, description, genre and website under Station Details. Enable Enable title streaming if you want to send song information. PlayIt Live's Now Playing feature must have an Internet Broadcast target; the default configuration includes one.
Leave Disabled unticked for the connection you want to use, then select OK. Leave Auto Start Streams off while preparing the setup so opening PlayIt Live does not unexpectedly begin a broadcast.
Go on air
- Start your programme in PlayIt Live and check the Broadcast Source meter.
- In Internet Broadcast, right-click the VosCast stream to start it individually, or use Start All Streams if all enabled connections should start.
- Select the stream and check its status and Recent Connection Events.
- Open your account's listening link on another device. Check speech, music and track-title changes as appropriate.
- At the end of the show, stop the VosCast stream. Restart hosted Auto DJ separately in VosCast if required.
Troubleshooting
- Cannot connect: compare the server type, host and port with your account. Check that hosted Auto DJ or another encoder is stopped.
- Authentication error: copy the Broadcast password again; for Icecast, check
sourceand the exact mount. - Connected but silent or wrong audio: check Broadcast Source, playback and programme levels. A moving preview meter elsewhere does not establish that the broadcast source contains that audio.
- Missing titles: check Enable title streaming and the Now Playing Internet Broadcast target.
Use Copy log under Recent Connection Events when contacting support. Remove passwords or other private details before sharing logs or screenshots.
