VosCast Server is the radio server we built to host your station. It’s the default for new stations. You can go live with any broadcasting app that sends audio in Icecast 2, SHOUTcast 1 or SHOUTcast 2 mode. If your app asks you to choose between Icecast and SHOUTcast, either works.

Can I keep my current setup?

Yes. When you switch an existing VosCast station from Icecast or SHOUTcast, your host, port and broadcast password stay the same. In a standard setup, you can reconnect with the profile already saved in your broadcasting app and leave your website player as it is.

To switch, open Server settings in your control panel, choose VosCast Server under Server software and save. The server restarts, so choose a break in your show. Once you’re back on air, press play on your website and check the current song.

If you used a custom Auto DJ mount, open Overview → Live broadcasting and check that your app and player use the Mount point shown there.

Will my website scripts still work?

VosCast Server provides both the Icecast and SHOUTcast APIs at the same time. A now-playing widget can use Icecast’s /status-json.xsl, while a listener counter uses SHOUTcast’s /stats?sid=1&json=1. Both report on the same stream, whichever mode your DJ uses to broadcast.

If your website or a third-party plugin already uses either API, keep its current settings and code.

Which server should I choose?

For a new station, you can leave VosCast Server selected and follow the setup guide for your app. BUTT supports both modes. Mixxx has a guide for Icecast mode and one for SHOUTcast mode.

All three server options include secure listening. VosCast Server and Icecast also support encrypted encoder connections and let you restrict listeners by country or IP address. If you need native Icecast or SHOUTcast, you can select either on any plan.
